Annexin V Apoptosis Detection Kits

MBLI’s Annexin V apoptosis detection kit is based on the observation that phosphatidylserines (PS) translocate from the inner membrane to the outer membrane during apoptosis. Annexin V binds to PS on the outer membrane. This event can be easily detected using MBLI’s kit using conventional dye-staining along with any streptavidine or avidin-dye reagents.

Changes-of-membrane-structure-in-apoptosis_Viable-cells

Annexin V and PI cannot be bound to cell membrane and DNA respectively

Changes-of-membrane-structure-in-apoptosis_Apoptotic-cells-in-early-stage

Annexin V bind to PS which is exposed to the outer membrane, but PI cannot be intruded to cells

Annexin V bind to PS which is exposed to the outer membrane, and PI interacts with double stranded DNA

PS: Phosphatidylserine PI: Propidium Iodide

DNA FRAGMENTATION DETECTION

The TdT-mediated dUTP-biotin nick end labeling method (TUNEL method) enables in situ visualization of DNA fragmentation at the single cell level by labeling the terminal ends of nucleic acids. The MEBSTAIN Apoptosis Kit Direct is an apoptosis detection kit based on the TUNEL method.

CASPASE ACTIVITY ASSAY

Apoptosis is primarily induced by the activation of caspases. Active caspases recognize a large number of different substrates, leading to the activation of several different apoptotic pathways.

APOPTOSIS MAIN PAGE

Apoptosis, a form of programmed cell death, is not only a major process within normal homeostasis but is present in disease states such as cancer and many autoimmune and neurodegenerative diseases.
